Ornamental Trees set the scene at Lakeside, an exclusive new-build development in Fleet.

Project: Lakeside

Location:  Chestnut Grove, Fleet, Hampshire, UK

Overview

Archway Green were appointed to complete all soft landscaping works for Lakeside, Fleet, including turfing, ornamental shrub planting and hedges, for our Sussex- and Surrey based client. Lakeside is situated in a charming area of Fleet, adjacent to Fleet Pond, the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and a noted beauty spot and habitat for a variety of British wildlife.

The Brief

Archway Green were tasked by our end-client, specialists in bespoke design and building for small developments, with creating high-end statement frontages for two stunning five-bedroom homes in a highly sought-after location in the commuter belt.

Our Approach

For this project, the location was key to creating a landscape to attract prospective buyers. Lakeside, Fleet is a small and exclusive development nestled in the Hart district, which has for six years been named the UK’s best place to live. It is also just a 50-minute train journey to London Waterloo, with the train station only a mile from the properties.

Working closely with the project leads, quantity surveyors and landscape architects we selected the right turf, plants, ornamentals shrub and hedges required to achieve the desired polish.

The front gardens feature some stunning ornamental trees, including the eye-catching Acer palmatum ‘Dissectum’ (Japanese maple), whose leaves are a delightfully vivid green in spring, before turning shades of yellow, red and orange in autumn for a wonderful fiery effect. Archway Green also incorporated Pinus mugo ‘Watereri’, a small conifer which can live for more than 1000 years, and which boasts beautiful blue-green needles year-round, into their rather dashing, yet maintenance-light, design.

The Result

Nestled quietly in Chestnut Grove, close to Fleet Pond, and with a 141-acre nature reserve on its doorstep, Lakeside is truly a haven from the hectic bustle of the City and the high-pressure commuter life.

Two stylish, detached five-bedroom houses are fronted with flawless lawns, sleek hedging and exquisite ornamental shrubs that exude elegance from the borders.

As a dwarf mountain pine, pinus mugo ‘Watereri’ is perfect for the front garden as it will never grow to dominate the environment or prevent light from reaching the front windows. The pleasing textural contrast of the conifer’s needles with the Japanese maple’s softer, frond-like leaves make for a high-impact aesthetic as you approach the properties.

Archway Green are pleased to have worked on this unique, luxury project – and proud of the elegant sanctuary they have created for the lucky prospective home-owners.
